According to the World Health Organization, “stress is among the leading causes of illness and disability worldwide.” That’s no understatement. Stress can be overwhelming for your mental health, your physical health, and even on relationships. There are many ways to try to cope with stress that come from work-life imbalance. The first thing you should do when coping with stress is to take a step back and assess your situation. You need to be honest about how you’re feeling, what’s causing that stress, and the impact it’s having on your life.
Next, remember that this isn’t just happening to you; everyone feels stressed out at some point or another! It might feel like nobody understands where you’re coming from but there are others who can empathize with how you feel. Once again: search for those people so they can support you through whatever challenge(s) arise as a result of work-life imbalance.
Another thing I would suggest doing is taking time off if possible (or making sure your vacation days aren’t used up). Even though not working will make you feel even more stressed, it’s important that you have time to reset. No matter how busy your schedule is, this should be a priority if stress levels are high enough!
After taking some time off or doing everything else mentioned above, try using the following coping mechanisms: deep breathing exercises, journaling/writing things down (which can help identify problems), exercise/physical activity of any kind (this gets the endorphins flowing which will make you feel better!), and meditation. If these don’t work for whatever reason then I would highly recommend seeking professional help from someone who specializes in counseling so they can further assess what could potentially be going on with your mental health as well as come up with possible solutions based on their expertise!
